Beginner’s Guide to Murder Mystery Dinner Party Invitations

Calling all the Party Planners! This post details what to put on your murder mystery dinner party invitations, when to send them out, and answers to other popular questions.

What info to include on your Party Invites

Each of our invites includes spots for you to fill in information about your party. These slots include a place for you to add their name, when the party will be held, the location of the party, the party host’s name (you), and when/how you’d like for them to RSVP.

Make sure to fill out each of these pieces of information so that those you invite can accurately let you know if they will be able to attend.

What is not included on the Murder Mystery Invites

You do NOT want to include the character info sheets along with the invitation unless you already know that that person will be able to come. Because of this, there is no space for a character name or info on the invite

After you have RSVPs from people, then you can begin to assign character roles.

When to Send out your Dinner Party Invitations

You want to send out invitations at least 2-3 weeks before you are planning to host the party. Generally, we recommend a month.

Here are a few things to consider when planning how far in advance to send out the invites:

  • Are you planning on serving food? You’ll want time to plan for the party crowd.
  • Do you expect everyone to come fully dressed in a costume? They may need a week or two to order something online, go thrifting, or make their own costume.
  • Are you letting people know far enough in advance that they will have an opening in their schedules? People might need a bit of a heads up in order to make time for the event.
  • How large of a group do you plan to have? Bigger party generally means more time is needed for planning.
  • How quickly are you expecting RSVP responses? People usually take a while to respond to an RSVP and often need 2-3 reminders.
  • Are you sending out invites in the mail or through other methods? Mail invitations definitely take longer to receive than online ones.

FAQs

Do I have to use the dinner invites from the murder mystery game kit?

    • No, you do not need to use our invites. You can use any invites that you like!

  • About our invites: Each of our games comes with a set of pre-made invites that you can print and send out. They are themed to go along with your chosen mystery and can give your party guests a clue about what lies ahead! With spots to add the information for your party (address, date, time, etc.), our invites can make the party planning process one step simpler!!

How can I get more invites?

  • Simply print more off! There’s no additional charge or fee for printing off more of the invite pages.

    • Each kit comes with a single page that has 4 invites on it. Since the number of guests who will play is dependent on you, we want you to be in charge of printing off the number of invites you need.
    • How to print off more invites: If you want to print a duplicate of a single page from the mystery game kit, make sure to adjust the settings on the print order. This will allow you to select the specific pages that you need more of.

Can I send digital invites?

  • Of course! We don’t provide a digital invite for you to send out, but you could always design your own.

  • Other Option: One thing you could do for quick and easy digital invites is to print off the invites page we include in the murder mystery party game kit and scan that onto your computer. Then, crop the image to show just a single invite (1 page has 4). Once this is done, you can easily send out the scanned image in an email, post it on social media, or text it to others.

Best of luck sending out those murder mystery dinner party invitations!
